It is tall and sturdy but even my six month old 2.5 pound chihuahua puppy can move it all over if she really wants to be someplace else in the room when I am not there. The construction is really good but will only work with a small dog that doesn't mind a crate. I have used it with washable puppy pads at one end and her bed and food at the other and as long as she doesn't mind being there she is totally and securely confined. She has never climbed out but can push the crate around as she is a really determined chihuahua. The crate itself is well built but easily moved. The gate at first was a little difficult to open and latch back but after a few tries it was no big deal so not really an issue. I had hoped to have a crate that didn't move and I thought this would be the one but I didn't realize this tiny bit of determination could move it so I guess this is a misjudgment on my part. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a very well built crate and didn't mind if it could be moved but with a puppy pad in there the pad just gets squashed up and hence not much help in housebreaking. However, she is mostly housebroken but didn't like hopping over the edge of the door to get to her pad so I just turned the pen upside down so the top is flush with the floor and the lip is just an overhead thing and the door still opens and closes perfectly. She is tiny so that is not an issue with her being too tall and not wanting to duck to get to her pad. I just leave the door open and she goes in and out to use the pad. I have since made the pen smaller and taken her bed out and the pen sits well on a large dog washable puppy pad. She loves that she can go right in and out and her bed is across the room. Recently I tried taking the pen off the pad and she still uses just the pad but goes around the pad where the pen used to be before she does her business. So now I am going to use the pen just for travel and outside activities where I need her more confined.
This works perfectly for a 6 pound yorkie. I can easily move this around my yard and patio. Can be configured into different shapes easily. I don't use the door as I just pick her up but I did try it out and it was easy to open and close. I like the fact that it packs flat to put away and store when not in use.
I wasn't too happy about the way it was shipped. It comes shipped in the original box. This does not work too well when the contents are metal and shift quite a bit during shipping. It cause a rather large hole to be made in the packaging and if the clip that is used to keep the pen closed was not securely attached to the pen, it would have been lost during shipment through that hole. The box was nearly in shreds upon arrival. No damage to the pen and it works perfectly.
I bought this for two purposes. The main one was to block the 81" opening from my kitchen into my dining room and second was as a pen to take with me when I go camping. The best feature of this pen is the fact that I can position it in numerous ways. As a barrier, I can position it in a "T" and have a section that I can swing open and close (it's two panels back to back); plus the base of the "T" acts as an anchor so the fence doesn't fall over. Of course a larger dog (my dog weighs 6 lbs.) would be able to knock it over, but I can place a chair on the weak side of the fence to prevent this. Haven't used it camping yet but I like the fact that it is completely portable (with a handle) so that I can cart it easily.
My Chihuahua had puppies and I needed something in a hurry to contain them when they got too big for the whelping box....The only place I had to put them was in my craft room so the pen was perfect to keep them contained and from keeping them from getting into things... It is perfect for this purpose...I put a tarp on the floor and placed the pen right on top... I also have a metal crate that is made of the same material in the pen and they sleep in there...I like the way I was able to arrange the pen in any position..
Good quality. Sturdy. I removed the "hinges" on one section so that I have too equal parts, so when I don't have the pen set up I can block my stairs and entrance to the kitchen at the same time. It also makes it easier to move and store. I use inexpensive carabiners to connect the sections where I removed the hinges.
