You won't find a more efficient, durable coffee container than this particular pump type stainless steel container. The hand pump allows you to get the air out and creates a great seal and actual near-vacuum while yet allowing your CO2 to gas out. And it's easy enough to operate - 15-20 pumps is necessary, even if the seal indicator bubble goes down after 4 or 5 pumps. The first time I used it, I stopped way too soon and saw that the seal was up the following morning. After that I did the full Monte each and every time and the level of freshness I've maintained has been great.
Tip from another seller: remember that it's an actual vacuum pump, so if you store small loose items (like pre-ground coffee), put it inside of a bag - I don't seal mine, I just fold it over to prevent the grinds from escaping into the pump.
I have two (one purchased from Osaka which is the exact same pump system and stainless container - only smaller) and this purchase. Having purchased 3 other containers to find a solution, this is the best solution by far.
**3 month update** Consistent freshness, time and time again, even when I don't open my coffee up for awhile (a couple of weeks or more) because I rotate my favorite flavors. According to description and instructions, you might want to re-seal your container periodically even if you're not going to use it as 100% vacuum is not possible (especially since it allows out-gassing of C)2).
Stainless steel containers this size are about $20. The "additional $10" is this incredible pump mechanism which keeps things super fresh. If you're serious about keeping your beans fresh (short of a vacuum sealer, the only "economical" method I'd recommend), this is a necessary tool.
